The first time I heard of Jethro’s Fine Grub was on the TV show, “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”. Interestingly enough, it’s located on Dunbar – about a 5 minute drive, 10 minute walk&bus ride, or 20 minute walk from my house. Jethro’s is a classic diner with HUGE portions and a line-up that makes you question waiting outside in Vancouver’s temperamental weather.
Now with TWO locations open from 8am – 4pm, 7 days a week, Jethro’s is nothing short of good value. Recognized as one of the Best New Restaurants on the West Side (2011) by the Georgia Straight and Best Cheap Eats by Vancouver Magazine, I understand why I wait an hour in the cold just to have pizza sized pancakes.
As mentioned, portions are HUGE. If you decide to order take out, Jethro’s buttermilk pancakes (which are light and fluffy) will be packaged for you in a small/medium sized pizza box. Everything you order here is pretty tasty. For the value, you just can’t go wrong. Personally, I think the extensive breakfast menu (which includes standard breakfast items, omelettes, french toast, pancakes and more) gives you a better value (and larger portions) than the lunch menu. For a full-time student, I think I can definitely afford the $6 – $12 menu items (since I always seem to have left overs).
